e of its seas, the Caribbean, bathes the north of Colombia and is the northern boundary of the department.

w  WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE?



El The climate of the Caribbean region is tropical, and is characterized by warm temperatures all year round, with an average temperature close to 25 ºC. Throughout the different months of the year, temperatures tend to vary little, with maximum temperatures close to 30 ºC in summer and minimum temperatures of 22º or 23º C in winter. May is the hottest month of the year and January is the coldest month.

·         The gastronomy of the Atlántico includes sancocho, such as pigeon pea, tripe, rib or chicken, mullet rice, fish such as bocachico and mojarra, coconut and black-headed bean rice, butifarra, yucca buns, clean, angel corn, egg arepa, carimañola, patacón, tropical fruit juices, hayaca, pastel (rice cake), chicharrón, stewed grains (beans such as Zaragoza, cabecita negra, lentils, among others) and corn cakes.







MUSIC

The vernacular and autochthonous rhythm is the cumbia. Other popular genres and rhythms are salsa, vallenato, porro, Dominican merengue, champeta and reggaeton

The festivals of the Caribbean Region of Colombia are an important part of its cultural and social life. The best known, both within the country and internationally, is the famous Carnival of Barranquilla, considered the second largest in the world.

 


In addition, other celebrations such as the National Beauty Contest or the Fiestas del Mar in Santa Marta stand out. The Caribbean region of Colombia is located in the north of the country, bordering it. It is made up of 8 different departments: Atlántico, Bolívar, La Guajira, Cesar, Sucre, Córdoba, Magdalena, and the islands of San Andrés and Providencia. Among its cities are Cartagena de Indias and Barranquilla, as well as Santa Marta, Montería and Valledupar.
